Training

At Matchtechs, our training program is close to the heart. Our ethos is to take on anyone interest, where possible also compensating our trainees for their time.

Our training programs are entirely free and personally oriented, matching the pace of each group of trainees.

We attempt to offer group introduction sessions but primarily utilise shadowing and on the job training, pairing our trainees with our most accomplished technicians. We believe this offers the ideal learning experience, getting to watch a collection of skilled professionals work in different ways.

If you’d like to learn more, please make a submission to the for at the bottom to sign up

We are currently launching the first session of our new training program! We plan to run a small course of 3-4 weekly evening sessions, each 2 to 3 hours long (with the final being optional hands on experimentation and additional time after) going over the basics of theatre tech, at the end of which you should feel comfortable enough to operate and potentially program a fringe performance.

Our entire training program will be free/Pay What You Can. Although there will be no expectation for a payment, it will help us ensure we can continue the program and offer travel bursaries as much as possible.

Additionally, we have a collection of 3-4 day work experience opportunities throughout June which we’ll book places on throughout the course of training, compensating for at least a portion of travel costs.

If you’re interested, please fill out the following form so we can get a sense of numbers and confirm the dates we will run

If you would be interested in work experience or shadowing with us without the full course or have any questions, please get in touch at matchsticktechnical@gmail.com
